You can compare screen resolution, storage capacity, and weight across the best 6 e readers side by side.
How to Choose the Right One
Check Storage Capacity
Most e-readers in this list offer 16GB of storage. This amount holds thousands of standard text-based books. If you plan to store many high-resolution graphic novels, color comics, or local audiobooks, you need more space. The Bigme B6 and Musnap Neo 2 provide 64GB. The Bemi Cognita Tab 6 ProC offers 32GB. These larger capacities suit users who keep extensive local libraries on the device without relying on cloud streaming.
Decide on Color Display
Standard text reading looks best on monochrome screens. The Kobo Clara BW uses a high-contrast black and white display. This format is ideal for novels and non-fiction. If you read color comics or manga, you need a Color E Ink panel. The Kobo Clara Colour and Bigme B6 both feature these color screens. Color displays consume more battery and cost more. Choose monochrome for pure text efficiency and color for visual content.
Consider Waterproofing
Water resistance is crucial if you read in the bath or by the pool. The Kobo Clara BW and Kobo Clara Colour models are waterproof. This feature allows you to read in wet environments without damaging the device. The PocketBook Verse Pro Color also offers water resistance. Most other models do not list this spec. If you read outdoors or near water, verify the waterproof rating before buying to ensure device safety.
Evaluate Operating System
Standard e-readers use closed systems optimized for reading apps. The Bigme B6 and Musnap Neo 2 run on Android. This operating system allows you to install third-party apps and customize the interface more freely. It offers flexibility for power users who want specific tools. Other models like the Kobo Clara use proprietary software. Choose Android if you need app flexibility. Stick to proprietary systems if you prefer a simpler, dedicated reading experience.
Look for Warm Light
Warm light technology adjusts the screen color temperature. It reduces blue light emission for better eye comfort at night. The Bigme B6 and PocketBook Verse Lite both include warm light features. This helps you read in low-light conditions without straining your eyes. The Kobo Clara models feature dark mode but do not list warm light in their specs. Check for this feature if you read frequently in the evening or before bed.
Check Connectivity Options
Bluetooth connectivity enables wireless audiobook playback and library syncing. The PocketBook Verse Pro Color and Musnap Neo 2 both support Bluetooth. This allows you to listen to audiobooks with headphones without using device speakers. The Kobo Clara BW also supports audiobooks via Bluetooth. If you want to listen to audio content discreetly, verify that the device lists Bluetooth support in its specifications.
